First you take a perfectly nice piece of pottery...

Add some chemicals (the blue is miracle grow - yes, the stuff for plants)

The hounds are done in masking tape - hopefuly they will show up on the finished piece. Next you wrap it up in tin foil and throw it in th kiln.

Light it on fire for a while and wait....and wait....and wait. Then open it and....

OK, so it wasn't as dramatic as you hoped. Time to put on the gloves (these buggers will be HOT for a few more hours) and gently brush away some of the foil and see what you got.

BIG gloves....

And stuff is starting to appear as hoped. (whew, was worried about the beetle)

A closer look shows the beelte is bright and the hounds are also showing up as hoped.

So far so good. Next to pull them out, clean them off and polish them up.
