Making Hairsticks
Why buy when they're easy to make?

  Back to Fun Stuff List

My sister mentioned that she was down to 2 hair sticks and asked if I was making more soon.

Can you ever have enough hair sticks? And why settle for boring sticks?

So I bought several exotic woods for a great price and the guy sent me 2 extra bundles of sample woods. (YAY!)

We'll never run out of hair sticks now!

These are my first ones. There is only clear varnish on the dowels - no colored stain. These are all natural colors and grain of the woods.

1. Bubinga

2. Padouk

3. Lacewood

4. Bloodwood

5. Curly Maple

All I really need is a belt sander to do these designs. I've also used my drill as a wood lathe on a couple, but I like the belt sander approach better right now.

6. Cocobolo

7. Bocote

8. Kingwood

9. Chechen

This is the last of the first rounds. There are tons more to try and I will add them in shortly.

Yes, the blue, yellow and purple are really that color naturally.
